IT does not matter if you farm on 1000 acres or not much more than a domestic backyard farming options are a plenty at this years Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.
New innovative ideas, building concepts, solar and renewable energy, bio fuels, fodder factory, machinery are only just some of what’s on offer.
Held at Kings Park in Seymour from Friday February 15 to Sunday February 17, 2008, the expo is a massive outdoor supermarket that showcases new technology and advances in farming and agriculture and solutions to the challenges of farming during these drought conditions.
There are also interactive demonstrations, new inventions and building exhibits focusing on new concepts in housing and building techniques alongside more traditional building methods.
Water saving devices, home improvements and displays of alternative farming such as emus, alpaca and ostrich and a comprehensive series of lectures and seminars from experts in their field, are just some of the opportunities at the expo you won’t want to miss.
"The expo started 17 years ago to provide an opportunity for visitors to see different and unique products on display, ask questions and learn new ways to improve their farms and businesses, whether that be on a large scale or a small hobby farm on the outskirts of Melbourne," said event organiser Colin Stray.
"Since then, it has grown in strength, with over 550 exhibitors coming from as far away as Queensland, drawing a 45,000 strong crowd over the three days."
For those who want to tempt their taste buds, there are numerous gourmet and fine food stalls, as well as entertainment for the children.
