Tennis ladies do it again

Team takes home some Swan Hill ‘gold’

MANSFIELD Tennis Association’s two teams at the annual country week tournament at Swan Hill turned in good results.

The women’s team brought home the winning trophy for the second year in a row - even after going up a grade.

The men’s team put up a good fight and made it to the semi-finals, missing out on a finals berth by just one game.

With the heat and the humidity, conditions were tough all week for about 1200 players from almost 200 teams from all over Victoria.

The tennis week, run by Victorian Country Tennis Association, has been played over the last 29 years at various places, but the favorite for many is Swan Hill.

Mansfield Gold team played teams from Boort, Bacchus Marsh, Shepparton, Kilmore, Rushworth and Tongala.

The men’s side finished third after the round robin matches, but unfortunately lost in the semi to Leongatha.

Next year country week will be held at Yarrawonga and the Mansfield Gold team will be there to defend their title once again.
