Charity golf raises $7000

Mansfield District Hospital to benefit from twilight event

THE annual Mansfield District Hospital Auxiliary Twilight Golf event just grows and grows.

A capacity field of 44 teams enjoyed a three-person Ambrose - with a twist, in cool but sunny conditions on a superbly prepared course at Mansfield Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

Following the golf, Dave Darby’s Alpine Butchery provided players and spectators alike with delicious tender roasts, while the auxiliary ladies prepared fresh salads, tasty slices and fruit platters.

Master of ceremonies for the prize-giving, auction and raffle draw was once again the entertaining Craig Willis, the nationally-known sports announcer - and golfer.

The ladies’ team event was comfortably won by previous winners Kylie Egan, Pam Sumpter and Barb Hayes from regular golfers Ruth Ferguson, Lesley Anderson and Nancy Stevens.

Phil Taylor, Gerard Comerford and Chris Bennetts took out the men’s event, just ahead of runners up Phil and Andrew Nunn with Mansfield Shire chief executive officer, David Roff.

The Mixed event went to one of the day’s sponsors Kris Humphrey who was teamed with Sue Wilson and Steve Chisholm.

Local tennis stars Rod and Sheryl Sargent with Tony Shuttleworth were the runners up and they also won the nearest to the pin on the third hole.

Other nearest the pin winners were Cody and B Sheilds with Rob Hughes on the 7th, club captain Roger Eddy, Graham Clarke and David Octigan on the 12th, while Harry and Elsbeth Cripps with Jenny Foster were nearest on the 16th.

Winners of the junior, ladies, and men’s putting competition were Todd Eddy, Elsbeth Cripps and Peter Smiles.

The new category of "could’ve been champions" winners were Val Naylor, Margaret Gray and Glenda Revell, who each won a golf lesson from club professional Neil Clutterbuck.

The final prize was the special achievement award which went to octogenarian Marj Hearn with team mates Marion Foster and Russell Breadon for Marj’s 25 foot putt.

The evening raised in excess of $7000 which again will be used to purchase much needed medical equipment that is additional to the hospital’s limited budget.

The hospital auxiliary expressed great appreciation to the Mansfield Golf Club and its staff, professional Neil Clutterbuck, and all the events generous sponsors for helping to once again make this a successful and worthwhile fundraising occasion.
