STANDING UP: Eurobin’s Robert Cavedon, with wife Grace, is running for Family First in the federal election.

ROBERT Cavedon has seen first hand how much difference can be made by people willing to stand up for what they believe in.
Gazing from the balcony of his Red Stag Deer Farm restaurant across the valley to a snow capped Mt Hotham, the region’s newest political candidate is clearly passionate about making a difference.
The Eurobin exporter said the support Family First Senator Steve Fielding had given saved his business and the jobs of more than 30 workers at his Game Meats Company.
"Last year when we were all of a sudden slugged a $50,000 fee to export, Senator Fielding was the only one who stood up for us," he said.
"I sent the same fax to all the politicians and he was the only one who fought for us and helped defeat the legislation when no one else would help.
"What I saw was what the balance of power could do to make a difference and stop the government in its tracks.
"When he approached me earlier this year and asked me to run I couldn’t say no."
The 58 year old said water security, a cancer centre on the Border and maintaining local tourism icons were priorities.
"We need a bigger Lake Buffalo to secure our future - if you haven’t got water reserves, you’ve got nothing," he said.
"With secure water there’s the chance to attract new industry, from water tourism to aquaculture.
"Without water security, industry won’t look twice at investing.
"A cancer centre on the Border is a must, as are upgrades to the Bright Hospital.
"We need to make sure our icons and unique attractions, like Mt Buffalo Chalet, are preserved.
"There are so many things that are doable - it’s just a matter of someone standing up."
