Town stops to remember

YOUNG and old gathered at the Memorial Clocktower in Mafeking Square last week to mark the 90th anniversary that ended the First World War.

President of the Bright RSL sub-branch, Mark Barnes, said it was pleasing to see so many young people commemorating the day.

"Above all it is a day for Australians, regardless of religion, racial background and place of birth," he said.

"Remembrance Day is set aside for us to collectively give thanks to those men and women who have put their lives at risk and in many cases paid the supreme price."

Guest speaker and Bright P-12 College student, Emma Ford, said the Memorial Clock tower was a testimonial to the determination to acknowledge the terrible cost citizens have been prepared to offer for freedom and the great Australian way of life.
